The Language of Symbols
Why symbols still speak to us today.
Symbols compress experience. An image can hold contradiction, memory and possibility at the same time, which is why symbolic systems remain useful when ordinary description feels too narrow.
In Tarot, a card is not a fixed sentence. Its meaning changes through position, neighboring cards and the question being carried. Astrology works similarly: a planet or house becomes meaningful through relationship, timing and context.
The I Ching reduces a situation to lines, trigrams and change. Numerology works through another vocabulary, but the principle is related: a pattern becomes useful when it helps us see structure that was difficult to notice before.
The value of a symbol is not that it replaces judgment. It gives judgment another surface to work against. A good reading does not close meaning down; it makes the important parts of the question easier to see.
